APR 7,2010 An update from Pastor Ulysse (Bishop of Haiti)
Finally green light was given for whosoever can may open their school's doors, well there is no more doors to open. Monday april 5, 2010 the Mixte Institution of Christian Fellowship in Haiti received the students in an open air environment.
Timidely but surely they are coming. The first day 40 came, the second day 60 and today 70. Parents were actually suffering having the stressed kids at home for so long, and the kids missed their friends and teachers. I hear that it is more of creating a fun environment for them now before entering into the academic curriculum.
This coming friday a satelite company is scheduled to install the internet for the Istitution and a transportation vehicle ( tap tap) is actively being searched for.

One huge factor in the restoration process, our local Haitian banking facility, is back up and running! Money transfers are now safe to make, so we can now get monies collected for Haiti right to Haiti. This includes both our Hope-For-Haiti Education program, and the general relief fund.
Another vital step in making things move ahead, is the establishment of an Internet connection. This firstly allows for vital communication between our headquarters and the ministry there in Haiti, and for quick requests, and adjustments/accommodations to those requests. We need about $1000 to set this up, and then we will absorb the ongoing costs into our operating budget. Please help by donating to the general relief fund!
The school has been challenged by the government to be ready to open right after Easter, April 5th. In order for this to happen, the boundary wall needs to be restored (estimate of $2,000), acquire tents/shelter for classes, and extra funds. The faculty there understands the need very well, and they will be sacrificing their own paychecks (as meager as they are) for some time, to get the school going. It is heart-wrenching to think of the depth of this sacrifice, as these teachers have so great a need, and yet willing to give that up for the sake of the children, the school. Truly a wonderful example, that hopefully we all can follow.
MAR 1 An update from Pastor Ulysse (Bishop of Haiti)
As the Nation of Haiti slowly rises to its feet from the horrific earthquake, we see community life returning in fits and starts ... and there is hope ...
The emergency needs and supplies are being well taken care of by the relief agencies. This means that many people are getting food and water and shelter more consistently than even before the quake ... such was the state of daily life in this challenged country.
As a ministry, we can only improve on the distribution efforts by making our church and schools grounds available as a community resource center. This is not really all that different from the role we normally have in this part of the Greater Port-au-Price area, and our people are well equipped, experienced and of willing minds and hearts to do such important daily administration. This will be a major part of our work for some time: no matter what resources, supplies, or aid we obtain, it will only last a short time, and there is need for more.
We that are outside of Haiti need to be sure we lift up our brothers and sisters there, and through our support making sure they have the essentials that will enable them to continue to serve the rest of the community!
To help everyone understand our direction, and what areas we will focus on, we submit the following:
Immediate Needs:
- Need Internet connection ASAP - approx $1000
- Need a Church Tap-Tap vehicle - preferably a diesel Toyota - minimum $6000
School must wait for government okay to officially operate, and no one is sure what those requirements will be. Firstly, we need classroom tents, furniture, class separators.
Need a medium-size box truck (15-25ft?) - better than a shipping container
Filled with ...
- Tents - large, military-style; also class-room size is useful.
- Construction materials:
- Wood - 2x4x12s, plywood - 1/4 and 3/4 sheets
- Scaffolding
- Concrete Mixer, tow-able
- Concrete framing materials: roof-jacks/stanchion
- Classroom furniture: benches, desks (adult and child),
- Cloth for uniforms (get info from Liline Ulysse)
- Chalkboards, easels, whiteboards, world maps, globes, pencils, paper (elementary writing), arts/crafts materials, etc.
- Could use more vehicles for Tap-Tap (Taxis), as they can generate income, and provide necessary transportation for our purposes.
Best to start construction on a clinic before anything else, as it will meet the biggest need, and also create an income stream to benefit everything else the school, or ministry, needs. This is partly because a clinic is much easier and cheaper to build, and we could realistically have a great impact with a small investment of funds.
We will start to rebuild homes of church members, one by one, as materials become available.
In the near future, we could benefit from a scheduled trip with many workers for a ÒBarn-raisingÓ for set times of construction. For example, when they are ready for the foundation to be poured, or for the second story to go up, then we could arrange such a trip.
FEB 21

- The spirit in the church is very strong.
- More people are coming to church.

FEB 10, 2010
- Pastor Ulysse arrives safely home to the United States.
FEB 4, 2010
- An update from Pastor Ulysse (Bishop of Haiti). I suggest that we concentrate our effort for now on getting the church a fairly reliable Tap Tap (taxi) as a food's fund generator. I do not mean now, but that should be the first goal as we will start over. It takes a minimum of $6,5oo to buy a used one. That is a job for 2 and guarranteed daily bread for a long long time.
FEB 3, 2010
- Government has said all schools must be functional by March 1 in order to be recognized. Please keep the re-building of our school in prayer.

An update from Pastor Ulysse (Bishop of Haiti).
Church family is basically all living under a big tarp on the grounds. US military is every where, including ships off shore.
I was able to travel and see Maxi (toes cut off), who is stable but severe pain. Life is coming along- food is starting to be distributed, but much fighting. Very heart-breaking. 186 in church today, and are doing well. Tomorrow they will start discussing what needs to be done.
Right now and even before the earthquake, food and raiment are the priorities #1 beside everything else. The needs are so great and our means limited. The dump truck is up and running, this will help in the reconstructions, but the LandCruiser is gone.
JAN 28, 2010
- Pastor Ulysse made it to church just last night! Travel is difficult. He says people are in good spirits.
JAN 27, 2010
- An update from Pastor Ulysse (Bishop of Haiti). I spoke to brother Jacques today for a long time. He told me that we are still missing one sister and one teacher from our school died. Maco, the brother who get injured, is still in a hospital in the NW of Haiti. He is in great pain and the care is not the best, but he is happy to be alive.
JAN 22, 2010
- Our sister in Christ that was missing in Haiti has been found. She is alive and well.
JAN 21, 2010
- There have been 12 baptisms in Jesus name in Haiti since the day of the earthquake.
JAN 18, 2010
- In the Church, only two of the families' houses have been saved.
- What remains of the church and school buildings will have to be taken down due to foundation damage.
- A two bedroom staff house is now serving as shelter for dozens of people.
- The worship services will continue outdoors until re-construction is complete.
- Pastor Ulysse will be sent to Haiti next week to evaluate the situation and encourage the Ministry.
- Pastor Ulysse will not be able to carry much except for light medical supplies such as antibiotics, masks, Band-Aids, wound care treatment, first aid kits, aspirin, tylenol, etc.
- One sister is still unaccounted for.
- The brother who lost the front part of his right foot has been hospitalized outside of Port-au-Prince. A part of his body will be taken to be used for his wound. He is in great pain, but thankful for life.
JAN 15, 2010

- Remarkably, the only reported injury among our church members is that one of our brothers (Brother Maco) lost all five toes on one foot.
- The two-story building which doubles as the church and school has been damaged in its upper story but is still standing. No one was inside, and there have been no reported injuries or deaths at the school.
- Pastor Ulysse's house has been totally destroyed, but no one who lived there was injured or killed.
